Basketball has a proud history in the Island Games. The Men first competed in Gotland in 1999 and they were joined by the Women in 2001. The Men continue to improve, narrowly missing out on a medal in 2015 defeated by Gibraltar in the third place playoff. The Women also lost a tight contest to Gibraltar for a Bronze medal but maintained their record of never finishing outside the top four in the 6 games they have competed in. The two fourth place finishes are complimented by 2 bronze medals, 1 silver and 1 gold!
