Hannah Kennedy has a busy week of competition

Swimmer takes on triathlon and cycling in Orkney

Hannah Kennedy has decided one discipline isn't enough after swimming at the Guernsey games in 2023.

This year she'll represent the island in triathlon but has also been selected for cycling.

Hannah says: "I did 'Try a Tri' in 2022, as most people who get into triathlon do through that programme in Guernsey."

Moving into triathlon was a natural progression after swimming throughout her youth, having enjoyed running, although not having cycled much.

"Swimming at the Island Games was always a big thing and I wanted to achieve that first."

Hannah was inspired by the home games in 2023.

"The atmosphere, Josh and Megan winning, and all the success of the team that I was racing with in local domestic races prompted me to move on."

From not really cycling at all, Hannah is now also part of that team.

"If you'd told me two years ago that I was doing the cycling as well I wouldn't have believed it."

"It's definitely the sport that I've had to work at the most coming into triathlon, but I think being selected for the cycling team shows just how far I've come."

Hannah is doing all three road events - the Time Trial, Road Race and the Criterium

She's worked out that she'll be racing around 200km across the course of the week!

"It should be good fun, the amount of experience and what you'll learn from having to juggle four races in a week will be so beneficial for triathlon."

Alongside her training preparation for the Games, Hannah has also had to cope with her A-Level exams.

"When everyone else was building up their main training blocks, it was the 7 weeks I had A-Levels, that's added an extra challenge but I don't think I could feel more prepared."

The 2025 triathlon team is: Dan Armsden, Amy Critchlow, David Fairbrother, Dave Mosley, Christopher Norman, Ove Svejstrup, Chloe Truffitt, Hannah Kennedy, Lindsay Sword, Ethan Woodhead.
