Sir Richard encouraged the the athletes to: "have fun, be proud to be part of Team Guernsey, go out and enjoy yourselves and lend as much support as you can to one another."

Martin Talbot, the CEO of sponsors Healthspan, said all those at the company are excited to follow the team's progress over the course of the week.

He added: "From us, good luck. We wish you every success."

GIGA Chairman, Jon Marley, paid tribute to his fellow Board members for the work that's gone into the games behind the scenes before wishing the competitors well.

His advice to the team was to make the most of the week and try to experience as many of the other sporting events as competitors schedules allowed so they could get the true feel of the Island Games.
