Sue Naftel

Having been heavily involved in badminton from the age of 15, as a player (representing the island at County and Veteran level), GBA committee member, umpire and tournament referee, Sue was asked to referee the team event at the Island Games from 2009 (Aland) to Guernsey in 2023. She only took a break, if you can call it that, for Gotland in 2017 when she was team manager for the Gold medal winning Guernsey badminton team.

As Guernsey seemed to be the natural place to end the refereeing role but still wanting to stay involved with the Island Games, Sue stood for election to the GIGA Board in November 2023, where she have been heavily involved in travel arrangements for Orkney. The Island Games is a unique event which brings the island together to celebrate its sporting achievements, whilst renewing old and making new friendships, and Sue is looking forward to the Games in Orkney where she will be able to see more than the inside of the badminton hall!
