Guernsey's triathlon selectors have chosen a team with strength in depth, youth and a mix of experienced Island Games triathletes alongside those who've been training hard to gain entry to the team despite being fairly new to the sport.

Josh Lewis represented Guernsey in the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April 2018 finishing 23rd in a World class field and has since worked hard remain within the UK’s elite, training at the National Triathlon Performance Centre Wales whilst also studying for his Masters in Architecture in his final year at Cardiff University.

James Travers and Dan Galpin complete the trio of male triathletes with previous Island Games experience. Travers competed in Jersey 2015 (men’s Silver individual) and Gotland 2017 (5th overall), whilst Galpin has a strong athletics background, and finished in 11th place in Gotland. Aivis Kergalvis and David Mosley complete the men’s squad.

There's a junior development place for Josh Thornton who has been involved in the sport since doing his first junior events with the club at La Houguette school and follows older brother Max who had a development spot at Jersey 2015.

Amy Critchlow is the most experienced of the female athletes and is unbeaten locally this year, she has represented her age group at the World Championships for Great Britain as well as being part of the silver medal winning ladies team in Gotland (5th placed individual) and leading Guernsey female athlete in Jersey (10th place overall). Chantal Green is well known locally for her competitive distance running with Guernsey Athletics and has recently converted to triathlon. Emily Squire has come to Guernsey Triathlon via the now popular route of Try-a-Tri locally whilst Megan Chapple continues to improve at every race.

Mark Naftel, the Guernsey Triathlon Club President is confident there's some great medal prospects in the team saying "Both individual and team medals are a distinct possibility. We have more coaching in place for the locally based athletes now than we have had in the past with Amy coaching the ladies particularly whilst Alan Rowe continues to add his influence and experience to the squad. I think we are in a great place ahead of Gibraltar 2019 and hopefully Guernsey 2021 with some really promising young athletes coming through."
