The Guernsey Island Games Association is delighted to announce that Dame Mary Perkins will Chair the committee to host the Island Games in Guernsey in 2021

Dame Mary brings a wealth of business experience to the role as one of the co-founders of Specsavers Optical Group and is a keen and passionate supporter of sport in the community.

Dame Mary says “I thought the games we hosted in 2003 were the most brilliant thing I’ve ever been to and included the whole island. When I heard the plans to host again in 2021 I really wanted to be involved and the chance to have the Games here again is so exciting for everybody.”

GIGA have been working hard over recent months to find the right candidate for the role and GIGA Chairman Brian Allen says “Dame Mary is probably one of the most important supporters of sport on the island and we couldn’t have found a better candidate to be in charge of putting on a fabulous games in 2021.”

Dame Mary will now put together the rest of her 2021 Committee. The next stage in the process is to confirm the dates and sports for 2021 which will be done soon.

Meanwhile, former IIGA treasurer Eric Legg will be working on the financial side of the bid in the next few weeks. He will then act as one the advisers to the Organising Committee.

Guernsey’s plans to host in 2021 will be put before the member islands of the International Island Games Association at the AGM in July where they’ll make the final decision.
